What we collect
For eligible U.S. visits with research enabled, we record when a calculation starts, which form steps it reaches and whether it finishes. A finished calculation also saves age bands; rounded investments, cash, protected reserves, income, spending, investing, retirement budget, leave-behind goal and total future costs; the rounded extra-spending estimate; and whether the plan covered the historical test.
Ages are grouped into five-year bands. Balances and total future costs are rounded to the nearest $10,000; monthly amounts to the nearest $100. Rounding happens in your browser before transmission. These rounded research values never change your actual calculation.
We store the month and year, not the exact submission time. A random calculation reference prevents duplicate counts; it is not kept across page visits or used to identify a person. We do not collect typed goal names, individual future-cost descriptions, names, contact details, bank credentials, advertising IDs, location details or IP addresses in this research database.
Why we keep it
We use this information to improve the calculator, understand completion rates and compare planning patterns across months and years. Rounded records and statistical summaries may be kept long term for those comparisons. There is no automatic 90-day deletion. We review their usefulness at least annually and remove or further aggregate information that is no longer needed.
We do not try to identify people from these records or combine them with contact inquiries or outside profiles. We do not sell this data, use it for targeted advertising or give individual submissions to sponsors. Any published statistics will combine at least 20 completed calculations and will not expose individual rows or rare combinations.
Your research choice
The calculator works the same with research off. Use “Turn off” in the privacy notice beside the calculator to stop future collection in that browser. The preference is stored locally; clearing browser storage resets it. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals also turn research off. Research is currently disabled outside the United States and when location is unavailable.
Turning it off does not erase previously saved records. We do not retain an identity or a persistent device reference that would let us reliably locate a particular person’s past calculation. You can contact us about privacy rights; we will assess requests under applicable law without asking you to send sensitive financial details unnecessarily.
Storage and service providers
The research database is hosted by Cloudflare with access restricted to authorized site administration. It has no public read endpoint. Cloudflare also handles website delivery and security. Ordinary connection information, including IP addresses, browser details, requested pages and access times, may be processed separately for hosting, rate limiting, reliability and abuse prevention. We do not join these technical records to research submissions.
SpendIt does not use advertising pixels, tracking cookies or cross-site visitor profiles. The site keeps a session flag for the opening story and, if you change it, a local research preference. Fonts are hosted by SpendIt; loading them does not contact Google Fonts.
Contact and sponsorship inquiries
The separate contact form asks for a name, email, optional company and message so we can reply. These inquiries are not connected to calculator research. Cloudflare delivers inquiries to our email inbox when available; you can also use your email app. We keep correspondence as needed to respond and maintain the business relationship, and review it for deletion when no longer needed. We do not add contacts to marketing lists automatically.
Sponsored placements are clearly labeled. Sponsors cannot change the calculation or access individual research records.
Optional support and external links
The homepage can load a Fund My Slop support jar after you start using the site. That service receives basic connection information but not calculator inputs. Choosing support opens Fund My Slop, where you can review payment before using Stripe. Product, dataset and other external links have their own privacy practices. Referral tags identify SpendIt as the referring website, not you or your calculator inputs.
Changes and contact
Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date. For privacy questions or rights requests, email hello@spendit.lol. Do not send bank credentials or account numbers.
